STUDENT OF THE MONTH

Owen W.

We have chosen Yellow Stripe Owen W. as the April Student of the Month.  He was chosen for his determination and concentration.
Owen attends class with his mom, sister, and aunt, and always attends the adult class.  His concentration and dedication level equal that of someone much older, and it would surprise you that he is only 8 years old.

Owen is also very detailed oriented.  He is always working hard to perform everything with as much precision as possible.  His eye for detail will definitely help him improve in Tae Kwon Do, but also in other things he does in his life, too.
Please take a moment to congratulate Owen the next time you see him.
Congratulations, Owen!!

Koby M.

This month, we have chosen Blue Belt Koby M. as the Student of the Month.  He was chosen for his enthusiasm towards Tae Kwon Do and his willingness to continually challenge himself.  Since Koby started class, there has not been one day that he has given less than 100% effort.  It is easy for a lot of us to “go easy” on a certain day for one reason or another.  We have never seen Koby have one of these “go easy” days, even with the weather as warm as it has been lately.
We appreciate Koby’s hard work in class, and really like the fact that he even helps motivate his friend, Alex Mathison!
Congratulations, Koby!

The Five Tenets of Tae Kwon Do
COURTESY

INTEGRITY

PERSEVERANCE

SELF-CONTROL

INDOMITABLE SPIRIT

Showing kindness, empathy, fairness, and politeness towards others. Examples include saying "please" and "thank you," responding when someone speaks to you, and offering a welcoming handshake to new students in class.
Being worthy of trust and knowing the difference between right and wrong then choosing to do what is right. Examples include admitting to your mistakes, making constructive choices even when no one is watching, and following through on commitments made in class or at home.
Striving to move forward even in difficult situations. Examples include setting a long-term goal and seeing it through, focusing on your accomplishments and completing unfinished projects, and working hard to move forward even in demanding circumstances.
Demonstrating discipline over your mind and body. Examples include walking away from threatening or confrontational situations, choosing to ignore negativity rather than to retaliate against it, and displaying your emotions appropriately.
Having a strong and unconquerable sense of self. Examples include staying true to your beliefs even against adversity, setting and achieving challenging goals, and looking for the positive rather that the negative in everything you do.
